Emergency tips

In case of emergency

In the case of disruption to mobile and landline services, we would recommend the following:

Mobile

  • Keep voice calls to a minimum
  • TXT instead of calling, if you can
  • If you're not getting reception, try moving to another area or location and try again

Landline

  • If the power is out, your cordless landline handset will not work, use a non-cordless handset if you have one
  • Check wall connections are intact
  • Remove all extensions and double-adaptors and plug in direct

Fixed line broadband

  • To check if the line is damaged, see if you can make calls
  • Check that the cabling is intact and the modem is connected

Mobile broadband

  • Restart you computer to restart the mobile broadband software
  • Try from another location in case coverage has been affected
  • Check your balance by TXT through the mobile broadband software

Contacting Vodafone

Personal customers call 777 from your Vodafone mobile or 0800 800 021.

Business customers call 888 from your Vodafone mobile or 0800 400 888.

Or email us from this page.

Some helpful tips:

Record a temporary greeting to inform colleagues, friends or family of your situation, especially if you are OK. After you remove the temporary greeting your voiceMail message will be restored.

Setting up a temporary greeting

  1. Dial 707 for voiceMail.
  2. Select Temporary Greeting from the main menu (Option 6).
  3. Record the greeting, press #. The greeting will be played back.
  4. Select one of the following:
    • Press 1 to Record again
    • Press 2 to Save
    • Press 3 to Cancel

To remove a temporary greeting call 707 and press 5 to delete.

  • TXT rather than call as it uses less of your mobile's battery power. It also keeps cell-sites working for longer for everyone should they switch to battery power.
  • Switching your mobile from 3G to 2G can make your battery last longer in an emergency, when you still need to be contactable.
  • If the power is out at your home or business and you need to charge your mobile phone, you can charge it in your car using a car charger. These are relatively inexpensive and available from a large number of retail outlets.
  • A Prepay mobile broadband connection could get you online quickly. It uses your laptop's battery rather than requiring mains power.
  • If you lost your mobile or couldn't get to it, would you know your friend's and family's mobile or landline numbers?
  • Write important numbers down and keep them with your first aid kit
  • All of the emergency services numbers can be found on the red Emergency Services pages at the front of your White Pages telephone book.
  • If something happens to you, first responders, such as paramedics, firefighters, and police officers, may check your mobile phone's address book for your ICE (in case of emergency) number to contact your next of kin to help identify you and obtain important medical information. Just enter your next of kin's contact number in your phone's address book and in the contact name field type "ICE".
  • Prepay IOU: If you run out of credit, just TXT IOU to 468 and we'll flick you $5 credit instantly. Next time you top-up you'll simply repay the $5 plus a 20c service fee.
  • Call Me: A free service that enables you to TXT anyone on the Vodafone network, asking them to call you. TXT the Vodafone number of the person you want to call you to 798. That person will receive a TXT asking them to call your number.
  • Other ways to top-up: Online using your credit card, via you mobile using Hotlink and, of course, you can call us on 777.
  • If you can't answer your mobile, call forward takes care of it for you by automatically diverting the call to voicemail or to any other number you specify. There is no charge to have callForward active on your mobile, but you will pay to forward calls, at your standard plan rate per minute. Your standard plan rate is the rate per minute which applies to your plan, and does not include any bundles, Add-Ons or Calling Groups.
  • Your mobile will have an option in the 'Settings' or 'Profile' menu called 'Divert Calls' (or something similar). Just follow the on-screen prompts to activate or deactivate your call forward options. There will be separate options for different situations, such as 'Busy' or 'No answer'.
  • You can send group voice messages: With VoiceMail Plus you can record one voice message and send it to up to 30 people at once. You make one call instead of 30, and your message can go to any mobile or landline phone - and it's free to other Vodafone NZ numbers.
Charges will apply. Call us on 777 to set up VoiceMail Plus.
  • Call 021 700 700. You will be asked to enter your "mailbox number".
  • This is your mobile number without the first 0, followed by # (for example 21 987 654 #)
  • Enter your 4-digit PIN password and press #. You are now in the main menu.
  • Follow the voice prompts to listen to your messages

You can send group voice messages: With VoiceMail Plus you can record one voice message and send it to up to 30 people at once. With just one call your message can go to up to 30 NZ mobile or landline phones - and it's free if they're Vodafone numbers.
