5G Partner Trip

In October our 5G co-creation customers Rob Cochrane – New Zealand Police, Stephen Bowe – BNZ and Stephen Ongley and Darryl Michaux from Waste Management, were invited to immerse themselves in 5G on our Future Ready Tour. They headed to Düsseldorf, Germany and Milan, Italy where 5G is live to see it in action.

First stop was Vodafone Germany, where the 5G team hosted a session on co-creation and partnership. The team got some key insights on what’s worked, learnings and the outcomes. One of the key partnerships with Vodafone Germany is with e.GO.

This is a fully automated 5G car manufacturing company. E.Go sees themselves as an IT company and not a car company which makes for innovative problem solving. They have developed a digital twin of the plant to enable trialling of process changes prior to making them.

And also an app (available through the App Store) to carry out preventative analysis, train mechanics to diagnose and fix the car.

Then it was off to Vodafone Italy where the team have been working on their 5G programme for 18 months, developing 41 use cases specific to Milan. Standout innovations were:

  • Connected ambulances that transfer patient information to the hospital in real-time, saving valuable time for patients and doctors when the ambulance arrives at the hospital.
  • Train station surveillance that enables real time analysis and high definition imagery of situations like unattended baggage, unusual behaviour such as people running in or out of the station, and the ability to manage crowds.
  • Police operating 8k drone cameras that are streaming 24/7 either to police vehicles, or to the station where they can immediately detect threats and use face recognition to apprehend offenders.

Our partners have come out of the trip excited about how they can transform their business, and thinking about how they can create value across their supply chain and for their customers.

The future is exciting. Ready?
