Terms and conditions
- You must be 18 years of age or older to trade in a mobile phone.
- The mobile phone must belong to you, and you have the right to trade it in to Vodafone, with no debts owing or any other party having an interest in it. Vodafone will not accept mobile phones for trade in which we determine to be a lost, blocked, stolen or fake, and can reclaim any trade in value where this arises.
- You can trade in any mobile phone, from any network, as long as it's on our data base. If your used mobile phone is not listed, it cannot be traded in. However, we do have recycling boxes in store if you wish to recycle your phone, accessories or chargers instead.
- Your mobile phone cannot be returned to you once it has been processed and collected from a Vodafone store, or if you have already posted it to us.
- You must clear all personal information and content from the mobile phone and any SIM in the phone. Any SIM card, data and/or personal information contained on the mobile phone cannot be returned.
- Vodafone accepts no responsibility in relation to the security, protection, confidentiality or use of any personal information which is stored on the mobile phone and/or SIM card that you have traded in.
- The personal information that you have provided on the receipt will be disclosed to Vodafone’s contractors in order to process the trade in transaction.
- Vodafone’s Privacy Policy applies to all trade in transactions.
- You can trade in your mobile phone either through our website or in one of our retail stores. When you trade in your mobile phone through a retail store, you will receive a retail trade in voucher or credit applied to your bill (at Vodafone’s sole discretion), to the value of your trade in. Trade-ins through our website will receive online trade in vouchers, or if you’ve previously made a purchase from the online shop, you can be paid by cheque or via Paypal.
- Trade in vouchers are valid for only 12 months from purchase, and may be redeemed only against handsets and accessories. Retail vouchers may only be redeemed at Vodafone retail stores. Online vouchers may only be redeemed online. Vouchers are not transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. No change will be given when vouchers are redeemed.
- You can trade-in up to 3 mobile phones to a maximum value of $3500 per transaction. We can only give one trade-in voucher or make one payment per transaction. We are also unable to offer multiple payment methods for one transaction.
- Eligibility for a trade in transaction is at all times at the sole discretion of Vodafone.
- Vodafone reserves the right to inform the relevant authorities if there is any suspicion that there is a deliberate attempt to commit fraud.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my phone value lower than the estimate I did online?
Our accredited retail staff grades your old phone based on the five criteria:
- Can the phone turn off and on
- Screen condition
- Battery condition
- Buttons/touchscreen condition
- Casing condition
Being graded down on any of these criteria could lead to a lower appraised amount than what was estimated online.
What should I do before I bring my phone in for the trade?
- Back up your contacts and any important files you don’t want to lose, including photos, videos, notes, calendar dates and messages.
- Remove your SIM and any memory cards inserted into the phone.
- To ensure your personal information remains secure, any SIM or memory cards found in returned devices are destroyed.
- If you have an iPhone, it’s important that you switch off Find My iPhone.
- If you have an Android phone, make sure you’ve disabled any security lock settings on your phone. These settings can remotely lock your phone to protect your personal information if you lose it.
Do I need to factory reset my phone before I trade it in?
A factory reset is recommended as you need to remove all information and content from your mobile phone before you trade it in.
Can I get my new phone now and Trade Up later?
Yes, you can Trade Up at any time but you will only receive the value of your old phone as a credit when you hand it in. You can only get the trade in credit of your phone directly applied to your Pay Monthly account in a Vodafone retail store.
Can I take up this offer on a business plan?
Yes, the trade in offer is available for any business customer with an active account, for up to 3 device trade-ins. An authorised contact needs to complete the process in a Vodafone retail store.
Can existing customers get this offer?
Yes existing customers are eligible for this offer. But first you would have to pay off any remaining balance owing on a current interest free payment before taking up this offer.
