Port forwarding is a way to make a computer or server on your private network accessible to computers on the Internet, regardless if you are behind a router or Firewall. It is commonly used for hosting:
- Game servers
- Peer-to-peer downloading
- Static VPN routes
- Voice over IP type applications.

Steps
Open a web browser and go to 192.168.1.1
The Welcome screen appears
- Complete the following fields:
- Username - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
- Password - You can find this on the bottom of your modem
- Click Log In
- The Overview screen appears
- Select Advanced
- Select Forwarding
- Select IPv4 Port Mapping
- Enter a new port mapping by clicking on New
- If the application option is chosen, you can select from a predefined list or applications to forward
If the user defined option is:
- Selected you can specify the ports required (eg for a Ip Camera or NAS connection etc)
- Selected the Mapping Name, WAN, Internal and External Hosts must be selected. The Mapping Name can be anything the user wants to call it. The WAN Name is the internet connection to be used (ADSL, VDSL or Fibre/GE). The Internal Host can either have an IP address specified or use the select button to select a connected device based on its network name.
- Click Add to display the protocol and ports fields. Here is where you enter the desired protocol and port values to forward.
- Click Apply to save the port forward
