Help with the Family Add-On

IMPORTANT UPDATE

The Family Add-On for Prepay will be removed from market during 2023, and if you've got the Family Add-On, we'll be in touch to let you know the official shut down date for Prepay numbers.

From 16th February 2023, you won't be able to change, or re-add, the Prepay mobile numbers in your Family Add-On.

This does not affect any of your Group Members who are on Pay Monthly mobile numbers.

You can continue using your Family Add-On with your Prepay numbers, just as long as you don't remove them from your account, until we have officially shut down the Family Add-On for prepay.

This article covers how to buy, set up and manage the Family Add-On, which enables you to create a group (or family) of up to four people with mobiles on our network, who then can enjoy unlimited calls, video calls and TXTs to each other for just one fee of $20 per month - payable by the person who set up the group.

You should know

Family excludes international calls/TXTs, roaming calls/TXTs, call transfers, PXTs, calls to premium rate numbers, voicemail, and all data transfers other than TXT messages.

How do I get the Family Add-On?

One person is set up as the Family "owner", with other people added as members of the Family group.
The Family owner needs to:

  • TXT BUY FAMILY and
  • Group member number 1
  • Group member number 2
  • Group member number 3
  • All on the same TXT
  • to 756

The owner's number will be the fourth number. We will TXT you back once the Add-On has been created.

Who can I have in my group?

You can add any group of up to 4 people who'd like to keep in touch with each other over our network. Brothers, sisters, flatmates, co-workers, boyfriend or girlfriend - so long as you're all on our network on one of the plans below. N.B. Group owners and group members can only be part of one group at any one time.

Can anyone in the group makes changes to the group?

No, group members can opt themselves out but any changes to the group itself must be requested by the group owner.

How do I change/add/remove members?

As the Family Add-On 'owner', simply TXT the following prompts to 756:

  • ADD FAMILYNUMBER and number(s) eg 'ADD FAMILYNUMBER 021xxxxxx' to add a Family member
  • CHANGE FAMILY followed by the existing number and the new number you want it to change to. eg 'CHANGE FAMILY 021xxxxxx 021xxxxxx' to change a Family member
  • REMOVE FAMILYNUMBER and number(s) eg 'REMOVE FAMILYNUMBER 021xxxxxx' to remove a Family member.

Changes will take up to 5 working days to process. We'll TXT the group owner and group members when the changes have been made.
To cancel a Family Add-On, the owner needs to log into My One NZ and cancel the Add-On. At the end of the month the Add-On will be removed and everyone in the group will receive a TXT to let them know.

What happens if a member moves to another network?

If someone who is listed as a "Family" member through your Family Add-On leaves our network (i.e. joins another provider), we'll remove them from your Family Group and let them, the other Family members and the person who set it up, know that that person has left the Group and that standard rates will apply when calling, video calling or TXTing this person.

How do I know if I'm removed from a Family Add-On?

We'll TXT anyone removed from a Family Add-On group to let them know and inform them they will be charged their standard plan rates to contact other Members of that Family Group. We'll also inform the person who set it up, and all of the other Members of the Family, that standard rates will apply when calling/video calling/TXTing this person.

Member's number disconnected or changed?

We'll remove them from the Family Group and let them, the other Family members and the person who set it up, know that they have left the Group and that standard rates will apply when calling, video calling or TXTing this person.

I'm a member of a Family Add-On group, can I remove myself?

Yes, you can do this by calling us on 777.

Can I add a landline number as part of my group?

Yes, Home Phone Wireless users can be members of your Family group, as this service works over the mobile network. However, customers on home phone plans i.e. a standard landline (copper, cable, fibre etc) cannot.

What if I'm overseas or one of the group is?

If you're in NZ and want to call a Family member in Australia (for example), your call to them will be free. However, they will be charged the standard roaming charges that apply under their plan to receive your call. And if you were in Australia calling a Family member back in NZ, you would also be charged your plan's standard roaming rates.
