From 30th November 2018 we will be closing our personal homepage services.
Our personal homepage services were set up almost 20 years ago, on platforms that can no longer compete with what’s available from specialist web hosting companies today.
We're encouraging our customers who want to keep their homepages, to move to a specialist web hosting company who can offer more modern hosting functionality.
If your homepage includes one of the following URLs, you will be affected by this closure:
- homepages.vodafone.co.nz
- home.clear.net.nz
- homepages.paradise.net.nz
If you're not using the above and have your own domain name, you will not be affected on 30th November, but we will be taking steps to close other email and web services in several months' time. We’ll be in touch with customers affected by this directly.

Questions and answers
What is a personal homepage?
In the early days of the internet a ‘personal homepage’ served as a way to share information on the World Wide Web, using a single webpage.
In the mid-2000s personal homepages dropped in popularity, as alternative technologies with greater functionality became more prevalent. The rise of blogging and the development of user-friendly web-design programmes made it easy for anyone to create a personal website with multiple webpages, widgets and advanced features. And social media platforms, like Facebook and LinkedIn, proved to be more effective and efficient ways update networks with personal or professional information.
What are the benefits of moving to a new web hosting company?
Moving your homepage to another hosting provider will enable you to take advantage of more modern web hosting functionality. This includes the ability to handle larger site traffic volumes, store richer media (i.e. high-res video/ photos) and use domain names that can better take advantage of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM).
Another option that may be even better suited to many customers is to share their content through other platforms such as Facebook or Instagram, rather than on a personal homepage.
What is an FTP client?
- FTP stands for “File transfer protocol”.
- FTP clients are tools you can use to transfer files between remote servers and your computer.
There are many free FTP clients you can download from the internet. While Vodafone is not affiliated with any of these companies, we think this article is a good introduction to FTP clients.
What is my username?
The username for your homepages is usually in its URL.
For example:
http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/janesmith - the username is janesmith
Will my personalised hosted domains, email, or website also be closing on 30th November 2018?
They will not close on 30 November, but we will be taking steps to close other email and web services in several months’ time. We’ll be in touch again with affected customers in the coming weeks with instructions on how to move these services to a new web hosting company. But don’t worry there is no rush - all customers will get 3 months’ grace period to establish a transition plan and move their services to a new web hosting company.
