Vodafone FibreX

  • Vodafone FibreX is not available everywhere.  It is only available in parts of Wellington, Christchurch and Kapiti. Please refer to our address checker
  • Gigabit network speed capability exceeds user speed capability. Actual user speeds will vary and are affected by various factors including how you’re connected to the internet (using a Gigabit Ethernet cable is better than WiFi, which could have a large impact on speed), the hardware and software used, number of devices connected, time of day, and where the data is downloaded from. In really good conditions, we expect you’ll get download speeds of up to 700-900 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 90-95 Mbps
  • Customers at eligible addresses will get an install in 3 working days, or a $100 credit if not installed in that time
  • Residential types of use apply. 3 day install terms apply
  • Early termination fees apply

  • To access high definition content you will need a high definition capable TV,  have subscribed to SKY channels that include HD content, and have a HD Ticket - $9.99 per month (per household). Non-standard connection fees may apply

Before you buy

New customers, to sign up you'll need:

  • A valid New Zealand driver’s licence OR
  • A copy of your New Zealand passport* OR
  • A copy of your international passport, plus a copy of your residency visa, which must be valid for the duration of the plan's term.*
  • You must be over 18 years of age to sign up.

*Can be supplied in PDF, JPEG, GIF, JPG or PNG format.

You may also need the following:

  • Current account details or a bill from our current provider if you’re transferring your service from another provider
  • SKY account details or recent SKY bill if you want to transfer your SKY services to Vodafone
  • Your Vodafone mobile phone - if you're taking the On Account mobile calling discount. During the sign up process we will TXT you a validation code that you’ll need to enter to confirm your eligibility.
  • If you're just switching your phone line over to Vodafone and have broadband with another provider, your broadband may be disconnected when your phone line is moved to us. If you're signing up to one of our naked broadband plans and you have an existing phone line that you use for your home phone calling connected with another provider, this will be disconnected
  • Your previous address - if you’ve only lived at your current address for less than a year
  • Consent from your landlord - if you’re renting and want Ultra Fast Broadband, and your address is eligible
  • Your credit card details if you want to set up your account to be paid by credit card each month

Broadband and installation

About broadband

  • Your broadband speed will vary depending on a number of factors including NZ and overseas networks, your modem and computer technology including WiFi capability, internal home wiring, other environmental factors, and how many other people are using it at the time. Uploads and downloads count towards your monthly allowance
  • If you’re switching to Vodafone your existing provider may charge you an early termination fee
  • If you have a security alarm, there is a possibility the alarm may not work with your connection type
  • A wireless modem and standard broadband connection offer is available if you’re new to Vodafone and sign up to an eligible plan for 12 months (modem postage and handling fee applies)
  • Broadband is not available everywhere, and only particular types of broadband services may be available in some areas
  • We cannot guarantee the availability of broadband services to you until the services are connected
  • Your data allowance: When you reach the end of your plan’s data allowance, you will be charged the excess rate of $2 per gigabyte, or part thereof. Subject to change during the fixed term of your contract.

Early termination fee & notice period

  • If your broadband service is disconnected prior to the completion of the minimum contract period, you will be charged an early termination fee of $199. Other early termination fees may apply for other services
  • One month’s minimum notice, or any lesser notice period agreed between us, applies to all Vodafone Broadband plans

On Account mobile discount

  • A $10 discount per month applies to your broadband package  when it is linked to an eligible Vodafone On Account mobile calling plan, which you or an employer pays for
  • Eligible plans do not include Prepay, Mobile Broadband, Mobile data, TXT only, Free2Call, Biz Mobile, Biz Data, Invitation Mobile GSM and Free Access plans
  • You can only have one On Account mobile calling plan monthly discount per broadband plan
  • If you have an existing 12 month term discount of $10 per month it will automatically be replaced by the On Account mobile calling plan discount if you link your mobile number. You can only have one of these $10 discounts per broadband plan
  • To receive the discounted monthly pricing for your home broadband plan, you have to have followed the process to link and validate your On Account mobile calling plan to your home broadband plan and remain on a validated On Account mobile calling plan
  • Each validated On Account phone number may only be registered against one home broadband plan to receive the monthly discount
  • The discount will cease to apply if you no longer have an eligible On Account mobile calling plan with Vodafone

Set up fees

ADSL

  • Free modem and standard broadband connection if you’re new to Vodafone and sign up to an eligible plan for 12 months ($14.95 modem postage and handling fee applies) A broadband connection & wiring fee may apply depending on your setup requirements.
  • If you choose not to sign up to a 12 month contract, standard broadband connection fee will apply or a broadband connection & wiring fee may apply depending on your setup requirements. You can choose to bring your own ADSL modem (provided it is compatible), or buy the Vodafone wireless modem for $149. Modem postage and handling fee of $14.95 applies.

VDSL

  • Free modem and standard broadband connection if you’re new to Vodafone and sign up to an eligible plan for 12 months ($14.95 modem postage and handling fee applies).
  • If you choose not to sign up to a 12 month contract, a VDSL standard broadband connection and wiring fee will apply. A $149 charge will also apply for the VDSL modem. Modem postage and handling fee of $14.95 applies.
  • Additional charges may apply for non-standard VDSL connections

Fibre/cable

  • Free modem and standard broadband connection if you’re new to Vodafone and sign up to an eligible plan for 12 months ($14.95 modem postage and handling fee applies).s.
  • If you choose not to sign up to a 12 month contract, a standard fibre/cable connection and wiring fee will apply. For fibre connections, a charge will also apply for the Vodafone HomeHub modem. Modem postage and handling fee of $14.95 applies (not applicable for cable).

Additional fibre information

  • The standard fibre connection includes delivering the fibre strand from the street to your home (up to 200 metres), installing the Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and the wireless router (next to each other), and rewiring your home to be powered by fibre
  • A cancellation fee may apply if you fail to consent to the actual work required for installation or fail to provide access to your premises to install equipment
  • If your fibre connection is not a standard installation, full details of the work required to connect your home will be determined and discussed with you on the installation date.  If any additional external or internal wiring, or home networking is required, the costs involved will be discussed with you at the time of installation. You can choose whether to proceed and pay these additional costs.  If you do not accept these additional costs you may cancel your order by advising the installation technician at the time of installation

ADSL installation

In most cases it’s very easy to install an ADSL connection. Simply follow the installation instructions we’ve included with your modem on your connection date, and you're done. However, in some instances, you may require a Connection and Wiring option, which will need a visit from a technician if:

  • You have more than 5 phone lines in use
  • You have a monitored home alarm
  • You use the interactive facilities on SKY Digital
  • You use a PABX phone system

Please note: Even if none of these conditions apply to you there is a chance that you may be required to have Connection and Wiring done.

VDSL installation

  • We will send you a new VDSL modem and provide the relevant information you need to self-install the modem and set up your new VDSL connection from Vodafone.

Optimising your connection

Deterioration of copper can result in signal loss and impact the reliability of the connection. VDSL uses Dynamic Line Management to tailor the speed of your connection to the quality of your copper line. Over the first week to 10 days we’ll fine-tune the speed and the quality of your connection. During this time avoid turning off or rebooting your modem as it will interrupt the optimisation process and prevent you from getting the best speed possible.

Fibre installation

Installation takes approximately 8 hours. A person over 18 years of age with decision making rights must be home the whole time. There may be some disruption to existing phone and broadband services. 

Ultra Fast Broadband over fibre - your Local Fibre Company (LFC)

  • The installation will be done by your Local Fibre Company (LFC) who willprovide the fibre line connection from the street to your premises which enables Vodafone to offer you fibre services. Lines and equipment must be installed to establish a fibre connection
  • LFC technicians will explain the process to you and won’t start until you are happy with the proposed plan of work
  • In addition to Vodafone’s Standard Residential Broadband TV and Fixed Line Terms and Connections, you must agree to Your LFC’s End User Terms. Those End User Terms apply between you and your LFC and set out important rights and obligations between you.  You must also sign a copy of those End User Terms (if requested) when your LFC comes to install the connection

  • For Whangarei the Local Fibre Company is Northpower Fibre Ltd - northpowerfibre.co.nz/agreements
  • For Hamilton, Hawera, New Plymouth, Tauranga, Tokoroa and Wanganui the local Fibre company is Ultrafast Fibre Ltd - ultrafastfibre.co.nz/files/UFF_End_User_Terms_v2.pdf

  • For all other areas the Local Fibre Company is Chorus New Zealand Ltd - chorus.co.nz/ufb-installation-terms
  • If you do not own the premises where services will be installed, you must obtain the property owner’s written consent to all works being undertaken at the property prior to installation and provide that to us if requested
  • If additional authorisations, licences and consents are required, services may not be able to be supplied until all required authorisations, licences and consents are obtained
  • Power is required for your internet and phone services to work on a fibre connection and services that require a fixed phone line to work, such as monitored alarms, faxes, medical alerts, or the interactive features of SKY digital may not work with a fibre connection
  • Copper lines may be removed to lay the fibre, therefore you may not be able to go back to your existing services
  • Restoration of your property will be limited to your LFCs restoration policy

Cable installation

  • A time will be arranged with you for when the Ultra Fast Broadband cable services will be installed
  • For properties which have never enjoyed UFB cable before, then a pre-check of the property prior to installation will be required so as to gain vital site specific information
  • Due to the nature of the work, it’s not possible to quote you an exact time of arrival. Instead, the date and a ‘window’ of time will be worked out with you. For example, your allocated time slot may be between 9.30am - 12.30pm

Home phone

Set up fees

  • A $52.10 phone connection fee applies if you’re connecting a phone line that has previously been working but isn’t active. For a brand new connection, a $52.10 installation fee and additional installation charges apply (price on application)

Additional charges

  • Phone features are an additional monthly charge to your home phone monthly fee
  • The monthly fee for phone Add-Ons is charged in advance. If you cancel any of these services part way through the month you will still be billed to the end of the month
  • There is a minimum charge of one minute for all fixed line calls. After that, your call will be rounded up and charged by the minute
  • Audio conferencing and calls to destinations not included in your calling plan will also be charged at the per minute rates of your calling plan
  • If you dial 059 or 0161 to access Telecom's network before making a call from your Vodafone home phone you'll be charged at Telecom's retail rates
  • 018 and 0900 and other special numbers are also not included in your calling plan and will be charged in addition to your calling plan
  • If you dial an area code before a local call, those calls will then be charged at national call rates

ADSL/VDSL calling rates

  • Calls to national landlines are $0.26 per minute, capped at $2.50 for up to two hours. Calls in excess of the two hour per call cap will be charged at $0.26 per minute
  • Calls to national mobiles are $0.36 per minute
  • Residential line to national directory (up to two enquiries per call)  $0.64 per call
  • Direct connect from a landline (Push 1 to Direct Connect with an 018 call $0.42 per call
  • International directory assistance calls (up to two enquires per call) $1.93 per call
  • 0900 call costs vary - check with 0900 provider first
  • Inmarsat satellite calls $12.66 per minute*
  • Iriduim satellite calls $12.27 per minute*

UFB fibre and cable home phone calling rates

  • National calls $0.25 per minute $3.00 capped call rate (up to 2 hours). Calls in excess of the two hour per call cap will be charged at $0.25 per minute
  • Calls to national mobiles are $0.36 per minute
  • Residential line to national directory (up to two enquiries per call)  $0.62 per call
  • Direct connect from a landline (Push 1 to Direct Connect with an 018 call $0.46 per call
  • International directory assistance calls (up to two enquires per call) $1.33 per call
  • 0900 call costs vary - check with 0900 provider first
  • Inmarsat satellite calls $12.27 per minute*
  • Iriduim satellite calls $12.27 per minute*

BestMates for home phone

  • BestMates for home phone lets you nominate 5 numbers to call as much as you like (up to 2 hours each call) from your Vodafone home phone
  • You can add numbers or change your nominated numbers at any time after signup
  • Calls over 2 hours will be charged at 26c per minute for NZ landlines or 36c per minute for NZ mobiles
  • Your nominated numbers can be any NZ landline or NZ mobile number. International phone numbers, special numbers (such as a 0900 or 0800 number) or short codes are excluded
  • If you want to change your nominated numbers, you can do this at any time, although you can only change each nominated number once per month
  • You can give each of your nominated numbers a unique label description or nickname (eg. Mum, Friend, Sister, Boyfriend) so that you can easily identify each number belongs to. You can add, edit or remove a nickname label as often as you like
  • BestMates for home phone is included for $6 as part of the 80GB and $0 Unlimited data and home phone plans.
  • When you purchase BestMates for home phone as a chargeable Add-On you must nominate at least one number at the time of signup
  • If you have existing active Talk 0 numbers on your account and add BestMates for home phone you will be asked if you would like to transfer those numbers to the BestMates for home phone add-on. We'll automatically close your Talk 0 plan for you if you choose to transfer the number to BestMates for home phone. If you decide to keep your Talk 0 plans these will be charged at $6 per Talk 0 plan per month

  • Phone features like Voicemail, Caller Display or Call waiting for a small additional monthly cost

UFB fibre and cable

  • Add a calling plan for an unlimited number of calls to selected destinations for a set monthly cost:
  • Call NZ: Unlimited number of calls (up to 3 hours per call) any time to national landlines - $15 per month
  • Call NZ & Aus*: Unlimited number of calls (up to 3 hours per call) any time to national and Australian* landlines - $25 per month
  • Call World*: Unlimited number of calls (up to 3 hours per call) any time to landlines in 28 countries including NZ, Australia*, the USA, China, Japan and the UK - $40 per month
  • Calls in excess of the three hour per call cap will be charged on a per minute basis thereafter in accordance with your calling plan. See our calling rates
  • See rates  to popular destinations not included in your chosen Vodafone home phone calling plan. If you dial 059 or 0161 to access Telecom's network before making a call from your Vodafone home phone you'll be charged at Telecom's retail rates. 018 and 0900 are also not included in your talk plan and will be charged at the rates below in addition to your monthly talk plan. If you're calling an overseas mobile (unless a special mobile rate is listed) it will cost the same as the normal country rate
  • Add phone features like Voicemail, Caller Display or Call waiting for a small additional monthly cost

SKY with Vodafone (available with ADSL or VDSL)

  • Access to the same services and same retail prices as SKY direct
  • Free use of MY SKY HDi every month (normally $15 per month ).  To access high definition content you will need a high definition capable TV, have subscribed to SKY channels that include HD content, and have a HD Ticket - $9.99 per month (per household)
  • An additional installation fee may apply if you opt to take multiroom
  • Charges for other SKY products and services still apply
  • Standard  Early Termination Charges apply (see SKY with Vodafone for details of these charges)

Vodafone TV (available with fibre or cable)

  • SKY Basic HD plus access to 36 channels of pay-per-view Vodafone movies
  • Free Use of Vodafone TV Recorder (normally $15 per month)

Vodafone TV Recorder

  • The Vodafone TV Digital Recorder remains the property of Vodafone and is for the customers use only
  • A $399 charge may be applied if the TV Digital Recorder is unreturned to Vodafone or damaged beyond reuse
  • With Vodafone TV you can get a second Vodafone TV Digital Recorder for only $25 per month to receive the same channels you get on your first decoder. Standard domestic digital installs only. Additional installation and monthly charges may be applicable if you choose to have an additional decoder.
