Insure your mobile with phoneInsure

If your mobile is lost, stolen or accidentally damaged, anywhere in the world, phoneInsure will replace it - and it's only $9.95 excluding GST a month.

What's covered?

phoneInsure covers mobile devices such as phones, pocket PCs, data cards and accessories which are used by you in connection with your On Account contract, and associated SIM card at the time of the event. (Please see PhoneInsure Policy for more details)
(Accessories can only be claimed upon in conjunction with an approved claim on a device or mobile phone).

It covers you for:

  • Theft
  • Accidental or malicious damage
  • Loss

Your mobile device wouldn't be cheap to replace - and most insurance companies specifically exclude them from their policies.

So we decided to do something about it. We've teamed up with Marsh Limited and created phoneInsure, a comprehensive mobile phone insurance policy for our On Account customers. With phoneInsure, you're covered anywhere in the world, with:

  • Same-model replacement of your lost, stolen or accidentally damaged mobile or, if that model is no longer available, a feature-equivalent model
  • Up to $1000 to cover any unauthorised calls
  • Up to $500 for hiring a temporary mobile if you're overseas

How much does phoneInsure cost?

There is no establishment fee for a phoneInsure policy, and your monthly premiums are just $9.95 excluding GST, regardless of the replacement value of your mobile. Your monthly premiums are charged to your Vodafone account.

Each claim also carries an excess charge

Excess changes (incl GST)
  • $125 for first claim made within 12 month period
  • $175 for second claim made within a 12 month period
  • $250 for any subsequent claim made within a 12 month period

This means you contribute $125 for your first claim to the combined cost of your replacement mobile, unauthorised calls and, if you're overseas, any mobile hire. You then contribute $175 to second claim, and $250 for any subsequent claim made within a 12 month period.

Who needs phoneInsure?

If your mobile would cost more than $300 to replace phoneInsure would be good for you. (Remember, you'll have to pay the full retail value of a replacement mobile, even if your current mobile was free or subsidised as part of your term contract.)

For example: two years of phoneInsure premiums will cost $238.80 excluding GST. So if your mobile is lost or stolen within those two years you'll be better off.

Because premiums are at the one flat rate of $9.95, phoneInsure becomes even better value if the replacement cost of your mobile is high.

Splitting your mobile from other insurance policies makes sense, too, even if they do cover it:

  • Making a claim on your contents policy could jeopardise your no-claims bonus
  • The excess may we'll be more than phoneInsure's $125, for your first claim
  • You may even be able to negotiate a discount for excluding a high-risk valuable like your mobile

How to get a phoneInsure policy

To get phoneInsure for your mobile, call us on 777 from your Vodafone mobile, on 0800 800 021 from another network, or on +64 9 355 2007 from overseas.

You may also want to take a look at the full phoneInsure policy, including a list of exclusions, if small print is your thing. (Trust us, there aren't any nasty surprises.)
