Your Vodafone mobile is smarter than an entire old-time telephone exchange. And all these useful services come FREE with your mobile!
You can control who can be called from your mobile with callBarring, forward your calls, have a groupCall with up to 5 people and even see who's calling before you answer.
You can access callBarring options from your mobile's Settings menu. Your mobile may offer more options, such as limiting the mobile's calling to those numbers within your contact list, and the ability to lock certain settings and features with a password. See your mobile's user manual for more details.
If more than one person uses your mobile, callBarring lets you control the sort of calls that can be made:
Bar all incoming calls
Reserves your mobile for outgoing calls. Callers hear "The mobile you have called is currently unavailable".
Bar all incoming calls when autoRoaming
Prevents your mobile receiving calls when you're overseas, to save on International Roaming charges. Callers hear "The mobile you have called is currently unavailable".
Bar all outgoing calls
Reserves your mobile for incoming calls, preventing other uses from making chargeable calls.
Bar all outgoing international calls
Lets your mobile only call New Zealand numbers.
Bar all outgoing international calls when roaming, except to NZ
Lets people call home, but not to international numbers when they're overseas.
callerID shows you who's calling before you answer. If they're in your mobile's contact list, you'll see their name on your screen. If not, you'll just see their number. This service is free, and it's already active on your Vodafone mobile.
Knowing who's calling is great:
- You can answer the person by name and dive right into the conversation.
- If you can't answer your mobile, you can still know who's calling and get back to them when you're free.
- If answering your mobile is a judgement call – for example, if you're in a meeting but expecting an important call – seeing who's calling lets you decide whether to answer,
or whether to divert the caller to your voiceMail.
Hiding your number from callerID
You can suppress your own number when you make a call, so the person you're calling doesn't see it. That can be handy if you don't want them to be able to call you
back. To suppress your number, check your mobile's settings menu. Some mobiles let you turn off callerID
permanently, others for the next call only.
Your mobile already has callForward active. If you can't answer your mobile, callForward takes care of it for you by automatically diverting the call to voiceMail or to any other number you specify.
Your calls will be diverted to voiceMail if: - You don't answer the call after about 20 seconds - Your mobile is turned off or out of coverage - Your mobile is busy.
You can also have your mobile forward all your calls immediately without ringing, which can be handy if you don't expect to be able to answer your mobile for some time. You will pay to forward calls, at your standard plan rate per minute.

callWait is like a second line for your mobile. It lets you answer or make a second call while someone else is on the line – and it's free with your Vodafone mobile.
If you're talking to someone when another call comes in, your mobile will beep and show you the number or name of the new caller. The new caller hears a normal ring tone. You have about 20 seconds to decide what to do:
- Hang up on your first caller and answer the new call.
- Put the first caller on hold, and answer the new call. Both calls stay live, and you can juggle them back and forth.
- Send the new caller to voiceMail.
With callWait you can even put someone on hold while you make a new call yourself.
See your mobile's user manual for more details.
groupCall lets you talk to up to 4 other people at once in a mobile conference call. You set up the meeting on your mobile by calling the other people on their mobiles or landlines, here or overseas. It's perfect for talking to your whole family or team at once.
How groupCall works
You call all the people you want to include in the discussion.
- Call the first person, then put them on hold using callWait
- Call the next person
- They're now treated as one caller. Put them on hold, call the third person and then link them in as well.
- Depending on your mobile, you can keep going until your have four other people.
- When you have your group, press the Link or Join option on your mobile to connect them together.
To end the groupCall, hang up. Everyone else's calls end immediately.
Some things to know:
- Only the person who starts a groupCall can add people to the call.
- You can call any mobile or landline to add to your groupCall discussion.
- The other people can simply hang up to leave the discussion.
- If you started the groupCall and you hang up, everyone's calls end.
What does it cost?
There's no cost to activate groupCall on your mobile, you simply pay for the individual calls at your standard plan rate. Each person you add to your groupCall is treated as a
separate call, and is charged at your standard plan rate per minute. Your standard plan rate is the rate per minute which applies to your plan, and does not include any bundles, Add-Ons or Calling Groups.
To add groupCall to your mobile, just call us from your Vodafone mobile on 777, or visit your nearest Vodafone store
This is a FREE service, so that if you miss a call while your mobile is turned off or outside coverage, we'll send you a free whoCalled TXT with the caller's number, how many times they tried to call and when they called, once you're back on air.
It's smart enough to send only one TXT per caller, too - so if someone tried to call you five times, you get 1 TXT, not 5.
And speaking of smart, whoCalled gives the TXT your caller's number. So if you have them in your mobile's contact list their name pops up instead of their number. It also makes it a lot easier to call them back, using your mobile's call back feature in your TXT options.
Turning whoCalled on or off
You can switch whoCalled off whenever you like. Just freecall us on 706 and follow the voice prompts.
