Located in Dunedin, New Zealand, Animation Research Limited is one of Australasia’s leading computer graphics production facilities turning digital data into pictures. ARL was founded in 1989 and since then the company has won numerous national and international awards for its work in computer generated television commercials and applications used for education and entertainment.
Ian Taylor tells us he’s based in Dunedin. But even a quick glance at his travel schedule tells a different story – he hasn’t spent a full week in the office for over two and a half years. Ian heads up the world leading company Animation Research Ltd. A recent project was providing live 3D golf animation for the BBC – a job that required Ian to photograph some of the world’s most famous golf courses and fire them back to his team in Dunedin ASAP. In the old days, to send back the photos he’d taken and catch up on his email, Ian would have had to get to his hotel, find a phone jack, and then get online. He estimates this process wasted three to four hours a day.
When Ian told us about his work, we suggested an easier, more productive way for him to do things. It’s called the Vodafone Mobile Connect Card and it’s changed Ian’s life.
The Vodafone Mobile Connect Card connects Ian’s laptop to his email and the web, whether he’s on the golf course in Scotland or in his office in Dunedin – no phone jacks, wires, cables or connector plugs needed, thanks.
“Just recently”, he says, “I spent two and a half hours in a taxi on the way to Heathrow. I was able to use that time effectively, sending and receiving emails as easily as if I was at my desk in Dunedin.”
Ian can connect to the web and access email wherever there’s Vodafone coverage.
He can send and receive emails, TXTs, and other files from his laptop – whether he’s on a golf course, in a taxi or at the airport between flights.
He can browse the web too. It’s as if he never left his desk. It’s simple and easy and he doesn’t need a phone jack or wires.
Now Ian saves around three to four hours a day – time that he can now use for things that really are productive.
Ian can stay online all day and only pay for the data he sends and receives.
