Service Packs, Hotfixes and Maintenance Releases are packages of software that are applied to existing BES and BPS installations.
Service Packs for BES and BPS contains fixes and enhancements, including new features that didn't exist in original releases. There are service pack releases for each BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.0 and 4.1.
Hotfixes are released to resolve defects or
potential security vulnerabilities identified in the product, whilst,
Maintenance Releases contains a set of previously released hotfixes
rolled into a single installable package that can be applied to BES
or BPS server in one go.
