PhoneInsure helps to protect you against the costs of replacing or repairing your mobile if it is lost, stolen or accidentally/maliciously damaged.

Customers with an On Account plan can purchase PhoneInsure within the first 30 days of purchasing (or upgrading to) a new mobile. It's a mobile phone insurance policy that covers you for:

  • Damage, loss or theft of your mobile and it's accessories.
  • Up to $1000 reimbursement to your monthly account for unauthorised usage incurred on your mobile, if it's lost or stolen. This includes calls, TXTs and data usage.
  • Worldwide cover for loss, theft, accidental or malicious damage when roaming on the Vodafone NZ network.
  • Cover for a maximum of $500 for hiring a replacement mobile overseas for up to 14 days.

An excess is payable for each valid claim. For customers who purchase PhoneInsure before 5th December 2011, a different excess will apply depending on the type of handset and replacement offered by Vodafone. For more information go to Important things to know.

Important things to know

Lost or stolen mobiles will be repaired or replaced at our option with a refurbished mobile or with the same or a similarly featured Vodafone approved model. If your mobile sustains damage, we will:

  • first attempt to repair it with new or refurbished parts, if it is economically viable for us to do so.

Where your mobile can't be repaired we will, at our option:

  • replace your mobile with a refurbished mobile of the same or similar specification, or
  • where a refurbished mobile is not available, replace it with a new mobile of the same or similar specification.

Your SIM card must be in use at the time of the incident.

Different excesses apply based on whether we repair or replace your phone with a refurbished or new mobile. These differences are detailed below.

Excess
For customers who purchase PhoneInsure after 5 December 2011:

If we choose to replace with:

New mobile:

Second claim within 12 months $175
Third claim within 12 months $250

Smartphone* excess
If we choose to replace with:

In the first 48 hours, you must follow these steps so that we can get you connected as soon as possible.

How to make a claim in New Zealand

Lost or stolen Block it:
Call Vodafone Customer Services on 0800 800 021, within 48 hours, to block Your Mobile and bar Your SIM card.
Report it:
You must report it to the police within 48 hours. Obtain a police report reference number to use with Your claim.
Claim it:
Lodge Your claim online at Vodafone or call the PhoneInsure team on 0800 505 021, within 48 hours, to initiate Your claim.
Maliciously damaged Report it:
You must report it to the police within 48 hours. Obtain a police report reference number to use with Your claim.
Claim it:
Lodge your claim online at Vodafone or call the PhoneInsure team on 0800 505 021, within 48 hours, to initiate Your claim.
Accidentally damaged Claim it:
Lodge Your claim online at Vodafone or call the PhoneInsure team on 0800 505 021, within 48 hours, to initiate Your claim.
Temporary mobile rental overseas Claim it:
Call PhoneInsure on 0800 505 021 (a receipt will be required).

PhoneInsure office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. (NZ time)

How to make a claim when you're overseas

If your phone is lost or stolen while you're overseas, call us immediately
on +64 9 366 9239 to bar your account and make your claim.
