Vodafone DriveSafe

Vodafone DriveSafe is an innovative freeTXT service that helps keep you safe while driving. When DriveSafe is activated anyone who sends you a TXT will get a message that you’re driving and you’ll get back to them later. Vodafone DriveSafe is exclusive to Vodafone and available to Vodafone mobile customers.

How does it work?

  • Before you start driving freeTXT Drive On to 760
  • Anyone who sends you a TXT when you’re driving will automatically get this TXT message: “I’m driving right now. I’ll read your text as soon as it is safe to do so. Vodafone DriveSafe.”
  • When you arrive at your destination freeTXT Drive Off to 760
  • Check the TXT messages you received and reply
  • It’s that simple!

Important things to know

  • DriveSafe is available for all Vodafone customers to use - both On Account and Prepay!
  • DriveSafe sends autoresponses to TXT’ers no matter what network they are on however only Vodafone customers can access the service
  • There are no charges associated with using the DriveSafe freeTXT service including turning DriveSafe on or off or for any autoresponses sent while the service is turned on. Any autoresponses sent whist the service is on will not be deducted from any TXT entitlements customers may have. (If used overseas, standard overseas SMS charges will apply)
  • DriveSafe is for TXT messages only.
  • We recommend using a Handsfree kit to answer calls received on your mobile while driving (DriveSafe works in conjunction with any Handsfree kit)
  • If you mistakenly forget to turn DriveSafe off, it will automatically switch off 24 hours after first being turned on
  • When DriveSafe is on people will only get the automated response once regardless of the number of times they TXT you
  • iPhone with iOS5 can use DriveSafe in the normal way however autoresponses will not be sent to senders using iMessage
  • The first time the service is used it may take a few minutes for the service to activate
Global innovation award 2012

DriveSafe wins second Global Innovation award

Our unique DriveSafe product has won Vodafone New Zealand, and its technology partner Telsis, a second joint global award for innovation. At an event in London in June 2012, Vodafone New Zealand and Telsis were presented with the User Safety Innovation Award by industry publication, Global Telecoms Business.

Launched in February 2012, DriveSafe is free to all Vodafone New Zealand mobile customers and works on all types of handsets. DriveSafe automatically replies to incoming TXT messages with an SMS that says “I’m driving right now. I'll read your TXT as soon as it is safe to do so. Vodafone DriveSafe.”

Vodafone’s CEO Russell Stanners is delighted with the award. “TXTing and driving is illegal and a hugely topical issue in New Zealand. We’re delighted to be recognised for our part in contributing to road safety, and Vodafone will continue to bring innovations like this to New Zealand so customers can make safer choices when they are travelling.”
